Inverness Royal Academy pupil Abigail Barrie is selected to play badminton for Scotland against England, Wales and Ireland in Dublin

The Inverness Town Badminton Club player’s connect with-up arrives after she reached accomplishment with her more mature sister Sophie to be topped senior doubles champions at the Scottish Secondary Universities Match in Edinburgh.
Abigail (13) a second year pupil at Inverness Royal Academy, will make her debut for her country when she competes towards England, Eire and Wales in Dublin in individual and staff functions.
Following impressing selectors at tournaments in Glasgow and Perth, Abigail is looking forward to tests herself on the worldwide stage.
“The simply call-up arrived as a huge surprise to me,” admitted Abigail.
“I have not been known as up to the Scotland squad just before.
“I knew that selectors were looking at how gamers carried out at particular tournaments and wanting at how significantly they were ready to get.”
Abigail initial started out playing badminton when she was seven-a long time-old.
Her father David, is also the founder of Inverness Town Badminton Club.
She states with her household being passionate about the activity, it was only purely natural she would go on to select up the racket as properly.
“I noticed my sister playing badminton and my dad was working a club at primary faculty,” she mentioned.
“It was one thing that I imagined I would take pleasure in taking component in and it has carried on from there.”
Abigail says successful the senior doubles title at the Scottish Secondary Colleges Tournament with her sister Sophie has also played a big aspect in her staying selected for the nationwide squad.
Sophie, a fifth yr pupil at Inverness Royal Academy, represented Scotland at the European Championships in Slovenia previous September.
Abigail is happy that she is next in her huge sister’s footsteps and has been receiving some tips on how to approach the tournament.
She stated: “She has been telling me to keep calm and just delight in it, but also try out to continue to be concentrated during every match.”
Abigail states she doesn’t have any distinct targets at the tournament and is honoured to be representing her nation.
“I am just hunting forward to the working experience and enjoying a couple games,” she explained.
“Hopefully we will arrive to start with and I can appear back again with a medal.”
